A Shared Calling
Vince and Denise Esterman were married in Brisbane in 1979 and soon sensed God’s call into pastoral and church planting ministry. What began in Queensland would grow into a journey spanning nearly five decades of service across several cultures and continents.
From the outset, their desire has been simple: to lead people to Christ, raise up and train ministries, and help build churches grounded in Scripture and committed to reaching their communities.
Serving across Cultures
After six years of pastoring their first church in Ipswich, Australia, Vince and Denise moved to France in 1986, where they served for 21 years in church planting, evangelism and ministry leadership development. They were based mainly in Paris but ministered in France (including several of its overseas territories), Belgium and other European and Scandinavian countries. The Estermans also spent over eight years planting churches and training ministry leaders in Reunion Island (French territory in the Indian Ocean), Mauritius and Madagascar.
Working in largely secular and post-Christian contexts, they were involved in planting more than thirty churches and helping establish ministry networks that trained and supported emerging leaders. Much of this work began from scratch, often with limited resources, but a clear conviction that healthy churches can be built through faithful Gospel proclamation and patient discipleship.
These decades shaped their understanding of what makes a church authentic, resilient, and outward-focused.
Planting a new church…again!
After returning to Australia at the end of 2020, at the height of the worldwide Covid pandemic, Vince and Denise were convinced that their church-planting days were over. They believed that their ministry time was not yet finished, so they began supporting and training established ministry teams in the Brisbane area. But God…
Today, Vince and Denise have returned to the call of pastoring a young church in the northern suburbs of Brisbane, Qld, which they helped plant in 2023. With the team God has given them, they are once again “starting from scratch” in church planting and watching the Holy Spirit do his work of drawing people in the surrounding suburbs to… either discover faith in Christ for the first time… or to renew their faith by coming back to God’s family at Brisbane Northside Church.
